Normally, urine has a yellow color in different shade including amber and straw.  The color variations can be an indicator of disease process, a metabolic abnormality, an ingested food or drug. The variation of urine color may be simply caused by excessive physical activity or stress. Urine colors are listed as below with their abnormal substances.

 

l        Colorless : diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, polyuria

l        Pink - red : hematuria, hemoglobinuria, myoglobinuria, porphyrinuria

l        Orange : bile pigment, carotenoid food, concentrated urine

l        Green - blue : bile pigment, vitamin B complex, dye(methylene blue)

l        Black - dark brown : alkaptonuria, melanin, bilirubin

l        Milky : fat(lipiduria), pus(pyuria)
