SUBJECT What is the ¡°Run-over phenomenon in pH test strip?
DATE 2010.04.28 HIT 9429 FILE

This phenomenon can be occurred by the excess urine.  If the excess urine from the neighboring pad runs into the pH portion, it may affect pH result.  Especially, protein portion itself contains strong acid and excess urine run down from this portion possibly wear the acidity.  This contamination in urine could produce an unexpected result to pH portion.  For example, Orange-colored band able to detect with a naked eyes will appear when the pH of urine is above neutral)

The color change in urine test strip is basically by a chemical reaction.  Each test portion has its own pH maintaining buffering state and so each test portion can affect pH test. To avoid this phenomenon, the excess urine on the test strip must be removed by using a clean absorbent paper after dipping into the urine.
