SUBJECT What are the advantages of using urine test strip?

The major benefit of urine strip is convenience. Just using a small amount of urine sample would allow the quick examination in 11parameters. Urine test strip can be also used for turbid urine, while conventional urinalysis method (e.g. Sulfosalysilic acid method for protein, Benedict method for glucose in urine) cannot.

Advantages of saving time, space, and cost are far greater than conventional urinalysis methods.  Urine test by strip method is simple and easy to run and so, it will minimize the possible error caused by the technician. Strip method can be performed together with microscopy method on the o.blood and leucocytes for more accuracy.

O.Blood strip can detect not only hematuria (intact red blood cells) but also hemoglobinuria and lyzed red blood cells, while Microscopic method cannot detect hemoglobinuria.

Leucocytes strip reacts with leucocytes esterase. Leucocytes esterase is present in azurophilic or primary granules of granulocytic leucocytes, which excreted from urinary infections. The strip can detect the intact and lyzed cells while Microscopic method cannot detect lyzed cells.

Protein strip react only with albumin while sulfosalicylic acid method can detect all of the proteins including albumin. Albumin is a distinct substance having a clinical importance in early renal disease,.  The linearity of URiSCANTM protein strips is from 10mg/dL to 1000mg/dL, while the linearity of sulfosalicylic acid method is from 5-20mg/dL to 500mg/dL.

Glucose strip react specifically with glucose(which is clinically important in diabetes),  while benedict method can detect all of the reducing sugars including glucose.

Ascorbic acid strip is a strong reducing substance. Ascorbic acid in urine is often a cause of the false negative result to other test parameters (e.g. Bilirubin, Glucose, O.Blood).  Therefore, It is important to check the presence of ascorbic acid in urine in order to avoid the false negative results.

Other test parameters (Bilirubin, Urobilinogen, Ketones, pH and Specific Gravity) can be used more conveniently and accurately than the conventional urinalysis
